"A symphony in eighteen movements"...

...to be played in Praslin on the Lemuria golf course, with its breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding hillside.

These are the terms used to describe the latest golf course created in the Indian Ocean by its architect, Rodney Wright, who also designed the golf course at the Mana Lani resort in Hawaii.

But what is so special about this par 70 golf for 5521 meters, with, as states the score card, 6 par 3, 8 par 4 and 4 par 5? The course guides the players from one beach to another small and secluded one, from one side of the island to another, and from sea level to an altitude of 70 meters. Fairways are surrounded by unspoiled tropical forest, meandering water features and huge natural granite boulders. Tees and greens pitched at different heights, the proximity of the sea and a background made of the natural landscape typical of Praslin create a surprising variety of delightful viewpoints.

Fairways and palms trees

Golfers will remember for a long time some of the holes. The challenging 8th hole (par 4, 423 m) starts on elevated tees and requires a long tee shot over granite boulders and water. Then it surprises all with its fairway parallel to the beach and its azure blue waters before ending on a Green protected on its left by a large bunker meandering under coconut palms. The 15th hole (par 3, 151m), without any doubt the most spectacular one, provides a magnificent scenic view of the Anse Georgette beach from the Men’s tee, perched on the rocky ridge 50 meters higher than the Green lying in the valley below.

When difficulty is added to the uniqueness of the location, the 16th hole (par 5, 436 m) comes to mind: the elevated tees are carved in the boulders of the valley wall, a rock-strewn stream separates the lower opening fairway from the upper fairway and Green. Finally, the tees of 18th (par 5, 473m) offer a breathtaking panoramic view of the fairway bordered by a large lake 40m below. From there one can also see the resort and, in the background, the cerulean waters of the Indian Ocean and the islands of Cousin and Cousine.

The challenges set by the double dogleg of this hole and a Green surrounded by water and sand bunkers combined with the exceptional scenery characterise the finish hole.

Indeed, the skills of a talented architect and his partner the champion Marc-Antoine Farry who succeeded in integrating the golf course in its environment joined to the overwhelming beauty of the site, inevitably make us praise the uniqueness of the golf of Lemuria
