Alphonse, 450 km south of the main island of Mahé, opened in December 1999 and offers to its guests a comfortable refuge in 25 individual chalets and 5 executives villas, all of them built alongside the lagoon and the beach.

Divers will fall under the charm of the live coral reef sheltering the tiny green island. Indeed, giant sea-fans, majestic rays, green turtles, groupers, sting rays and the wreck of a French coal-steamer are just but a few of the exciting sights of the dive excursions.

The sandy flats of St Francois, which can be reached from Alphonse within half a hour, is considered as one of the best spot in the world for fly-fishing.

Alternatively, the profusion of marlin, sailfish, wahoo, barracuda, dorados and tuna will delight as well as challenge deep-sea fishermen.

Natures lovers will be thrilled to observe many species of migrant waders and will set themselves to discover a majestic and mysterious place: the small island Bijoutier, whose only inhabitants are terns and frigate birds, sea turtles and giant blue mud crab.

 The more active guests will ride their bicycle along the paths in search of interesting plants, secluded beaches or special swimming sites.

Finally, we can venture that very few visitors will resist the temptation of the waters of the large sized swimming pool or Alphonse’s cuisine, renowned for the variety and innovation of its dishes often based on the catch of the day.

Dinner will also be the occasion to introduce the visitors to one of the most joyful aspects of Creole culture: the traditional dances such as moutia and sega. Indeed, on many evening, waiters, guide and other workers of the hotel join heartily in a demonstration full of music and movements. And as the warm of their inviting smiles becomes contagious, it is just up to the guests to join in and add a human touch to their souvenir of this dreamlike island
